Life Afloat

A life aboard the Thames Sailing Barge Kitty & the top sail Schooner Helga

Patrick was Captain of sailing at R.M.A.  Sandhurst and has some interesting tales of racing against the Royal Naval College Dartmouth. He went on to crew for John Illingworth (the famous off shore racer) on Maid of Malham. He and his wife, Caroline, bought the Thames Sailing Barge Kitty as their first home. Later on they purchased Top Sail Schooner Helga and ran the two together as a charter business. The talk includes problems faced when winching Major General Julian Thompson (The Marine Commander in the Falklands War) off the barge. Plus other amusing stories of the ups & downs aboard these traditional wooden working boats.
